Remembering Eric Hoffmann

Eric Hoffmann

Eric unexpectedly passed away Thursday, July 24th, 2025. He was a friend to many, a passionate father, and MLD advocate. Christine has asked that donations in Eric’s memory and honor be made to MLD Foundation.

Your donation honors Eric and his friendship, while supporting the work of MLD Foundation.  Eric was a friend to many in the Scottsdale and Phoenix area.  He loved his wife Christine and his twin boys, Carter and Will, who are heading to college in just a few weeks.

Eric lost his 8 year-old daughter, Olivia, to metachromatic leukodystrophy in late 2010.  He struggled with his daughter’s  journey as she progressed and succumbed to MLD.  Eric became a regular at the annual MLD Family Conference® and always made it a point to connect with the families, especially fathers of newly diagnosed children.  He was a rock of practical support and encouragement to everyone.

Your donation in Eric’s memory will go to MLD Foundation, a 501c3 charity which is currently celebrating its 25th year serving MLD families. Over those 25 years, they have shepherded the research, clinical trials, and the FDA & EMA approvals of a curative gene therapy.  Our 2025-26 focus is national MLD newborn screening so babies will be identified pre-symptomatically and able to be referred to the gene therapy so they can live normal lives, and improving Medicaid access across state lines. Our mission is We C.A.R.E.® … facilitating Compassion for families, increasing Awareness, influencing & funding Research, and promoting Education for metachromatic leukodystrophy, a very rare terminal genetic neuro-metabolic lysosomal disease where over half the cases affect infants.
